Abstract:
The hot compression test at constant temperature and strain rate was conducted on TC17 titanium alloy in two-phase region using the thermal simulation testing machine Gleeble 3800 and the deformation condition resulted in compression instability was analysed. The microstructure of the TC17 titanium alloy after compression was studied by optical microscope and scanning electron microscope. The results show that the deformation instability of TC17 titanium alloy occurred when the heat distortion temperature was 750 ℃, the strain rate and deformation amount was no less than 1 s-1 and 45% respectively. After deformation instability occurrence, with the increase of the deformation amount and strain rate, the instability zone narrowed and the microstructure deformation inhomogeneity intensified. In the instability zone, the deformation occurred mainly in β transformation microstructure.
